Observations and occasional comments about San Diego county weather - nature - and the world around us.

We took a Thursday drive out to the desert to see how super the Super Bloom was. Seemed like a good reason to take a hooky day off from work ;-) I had no interest in fighting the weekend crowds that were reportedly massive.
Apparently, the blooms are attracting more than just people out to the desert! New desert critters ;-)
OK, here's where we went - Lovely morning, 80s to low 90s.
Yes, it's a desert!
Some of the floral carpet :-)
Poppies, not California poppies and not the masses that go on for miles - but very nice!
Little native bee happy to see so many blooms.
Ghost flower, I was sure this was a type of monkeyflower (mimulus), but apparently not.
Lots of lupines!
Don't know what these little ones are, probably cal will recognize ;-)
Really had a nice time checking out the blooms - larger ones, tiny ones. There is concern that the 'super bloom' will be ended when the caterpillar population spikes from the abundant food source and they cats eat all the plants! I didn't see any caterpillars where we went.
And of course ;-)
