Watches & Warnings

High Surf Warning
Issued: 4:09 AM HST Dec. 18, 2018 – National Weather Service

... High surf warning now in effect until 6 PM HST Wednesday...

* surf... rising to 20 to 30 feet along north and west facing
shores of Niihau and Kauai, and north facing shores of Oahu,
Molokai and Maui. Rising to 15 to 20 feet this afternoon through
Wednesday along west facing shores of Oahu and Molokai.

* Timing... through 6 PM Wednesday.

* Impacts... high... expect ocean water occasionally sweeping across
portions of beaches, very strong breaking waves, and strong
longshore and rip currents. Breaking waves may occasionally
impact harbors making navigating The Harbor channel dangerous.
Additionally, the combination of strong north to northeast
winds, large surf, and above normal high tide levels, will
increase the risk for significant beach erosion and possibly
lead to some minor overwash onto coastal roadways, particularly
around the high tide cycle early Wednesday morning.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Large breaking surf, significant shorebreak, and dangerous
currents make entering the water very hazardous. Anyone entering
the water could face significant injury or death. Boaters should
be aware of an increased number of surfers and body boarders
utilizing The Harbor channel to access surfing areas.
